Great Accomplishments, Fun and Such

Wow, this was one busy weekend. But, it was a good kind of busy and it means the next couple of weekends will be a lot less frantic. So, what was going on?

Friday was the last football game of the season, quite emphatically so, as the other team trounced ours quite soundly, so no playoffs. I will really miss the band bus kids, and hope they are all getting along well enough next year to mostly reconvene on the same bus. It was really cute when Attention Hound raised his hand and asked what busy I'd be on next year, and I said, "Whatever bus you all are on," and they mostly seemed to agree to try to be "Bus 4 4 Ever" or something like that. One kid also asked, after I told them they were welcome to come to the wedding, "Who are you getting married to." So, I pointed to Lee, who had been on the bus nearly every time we went anywhere, but I guess was invisible because he didn't say, "Attention band students!" at the top of his lungs like I did. I'm glad I got to know these kids, and am happy I even made a genuine friend out of it!

Saturday was very, very long, but productive. I got up earlier than usual and headed off to Deana's house to pick her up for a long drive. We went to New Braunfels to get my wedding dress alterations taken care of (dang, the alterations cost more than my previous most expensive dress ever). But, it will be pretty. We were rather late because I took the "Seguin" exit and not the "Seguin Ave." exit. Close, but not exactly right. But, we lived and it got taken care of, and managed to eat an early lunch at perhaps the most clueless Dairy Queen ever. I did better finding the next thing, which was the Kid 'n Ewe alpaca, mohair and other fibers festival. I went on and on about it in my knitting blog, so read about it there if you wish. It was a lovely drive, though, and even though it meant no time to work on my sock, it was worth it.

After an equally lovely drive home, I actually had some time to relax and enjoy my yarn before Lee and I went on a genuine date. We saw the group Chanticleer, which is an a capella men's chorus from San Francisco. They are mind-boggling, to put it mildly. Not only are the harmonies perfect, the timing incredible and the songs beautiful, but the voices are unworldly. There are genuine male human beings with vocal ranges higher in the soprano range than anyone in the Live Oak UU Church Choir, that's for sure! It was really nice that Edgar from choir let Lee buy his tickets, since he couldn't make it. We may go to another concert in this series, which is at First Presbyterian Church in Austin. It's a really lovely church, with wood walls and a really nice feeling. All the Jesuses in it are kind looking.

Sunday started off with a bit of a challenge, because XH wanted to be fully briefed on Tuba Boy's college plans, since Tuba Boy had not been very forthcoming on this topic. I foresaw that he would not do the work needed for this, so I went to the websites for the five colleges I decided he's be applying to (well, someone had to decide) and found the links to how to apply as well as to the application forms. I then made a little bulleted list of the main points about applications. So, when we all got together in one big happy family at a coffee shop, Tuba Boy was able, after some prodding, to adequately address his dad's questions. To be honest, the man has every right to ask--it is HIS money that will be paying. So, now everyone is perkier on this topic, I hope. I also will be making sure the boy does not get distracted by his newly improved social life to the extent that he misses his deadlines. Stuff must happen this week.

Once that was out of the way, it was smooth sailing to church, where there was a nice sermon by the Good Young Minister followed by a very fun sale of interesting paper bead jewelry made in Uganda by women there. The organization is Beads for Life. You'd never know the beads were paper unless you were familiar with the process or someone told you. There were some very nice designs. I got some as gifts for my sister and stepmother, and I know they will both like that they go to help people feed their families. The great news is that you can buy some from their website, or host a party--it would be a great women's group activity. The beads are really pretty!

Following that extravaganza of spending, we headed off to Lee's least favorite spot, the mall. There we spent more money. But, it was on pretty wonderful stuff! Lee got new glasses so he can SEE better. The new frames blend well with his hair and are very unobtrusive. Next, we went to the lovely Men's Warehouse and got him a wedding suit. Actually, he got two, cause they were on sale. Certainly was more than the Penneys models we'd originally intended to get, but these are going to be tailored to fit him, just like my wedding dress. We will be recognizable as the people whose clothing fits perfectly, not the bride and groom! He has a beautiful shirt, new dress shoes and a nice gold tie, too. He will look fine, I tell you!

You'd think that shopping would have exhausted us, but no, we were on a roll. We next headed out to a brief, yet yummy, Asian-style lunch and then to Sam's Club and the gigantic Garden Ridge store near work. I wanted to get the odious task of buying serving items, vases for the wedding flowers, and the rose garland to mark off the parts of the labyrinth we are going to walk around OVER with. And we did it. Quite serendipitously, we discovered at Sam's sturdy paper plates in red and white, and dessert plates in a gold and white pattern. Whoa, our colors. So we got massive quantities of the plates, clear cutlery and clear drinking glasses (smaller, to hopefully save on soda/wine consumption). We also found a perfect base for a chalice and a really cool lazy susan thing that will be great for serving appetizer things and for Thanksgiving.

Garden Ridge was more of a challenge, but by the time we were finished, we'd managed to NOT buy bunch of Christmas stuff, yet get lovely gold vases, a red candle holder for the chalice, a blue/gold bowl to hold the water element, a satin thing to cover the altar, nice red napkins, a bunch of red and gold tulle and ribbon for decorating stuff...and stuff like that. In the end, I think we have all the decor items we can get until the last-minute Friday workday purchases (flowers, drinks, etc.) and the Saturday barbecue and such. What a tremendous relief to not have to worry about it all next week. I just need little things like name tags and disposable serving spoons and such.

I have all the speakers at the wedding lined up--Rev. Kathleen and my sister will do readings. And my sister and dad will be "greeters" (telling people where they can set their food down, and where the nametags are). I hope the kids will help with that, too, until just before the ceremony. Parker will cheerfully force people to sign the guest book. Katy will also be there to direct traffic, I hope. I am going to make signs out of our old political ones directing people behind the church for the wedding. That should help, too.

I am exhausted just from describing all this wedding planning. It is a good thing that we had a nice relaxing evening looking at guitar websites with Beccano, chatting with Tuba Boy's visiting friend, and yelling at football on the television. I wasn't up for much else!

Today I have been working on a confusing project, but making progress. And I had a nice lunch at an Indian restaurant with my new contact at the company I technically work for. She said they ARE having writing jobs come through, so not to be in too big of a panic mode. And I am not. Every time this happens my panic period is shorter! And lots of people are in the same boat. I am a little scared--I keep hearing about friends getting laid off or having to lay off staff. It's really a sad time. How come Obama hasn't fixed everything yet, huh? (Insert nervous laughter here--nobody can fix this quickly, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, superhero or deity.)

See Saw, Up Down

Look, I knitted something. Mostly I have been laboring along on the baby set, so not much knitting to show in pictures. But I was supposed to teach a friend how to knit this little shrug from One Skein Wonders so I found this incredible Noro yarn with angora and other goodies in it that I got for my birthday last year and didn't know what to do with and said, "OK, you will be a shrug." Of course, I had to knit it very loosely, so it is airy and lacy. But you know what? It is cute! I decided to make the shruggie thing a little longer than the one in the book, since I had more yarn and didn't want to waste a precious drop of its beauty. Yesterday I got a beautiful button (one-of-a-kind) from the collection Pat bought for the yarn store, which goes incredibly well with it. Pat and I were amazed at how perfectly it matches. Anyway, I am happy with this item and wore it two days in a row (to coffeehouse and the memorial service yesterday). I will wear it to work tomorrow.

What's Happening

So, it's been a few days of ups and downs. Friday I went in to work wearing my interview suit and wondering why I had drawn a crappy tarot card for the day. Well, at 9:40, I got a call from the HR lass telling me that the 10:00 am appointments were canceled. Geez, I was about to leave the building to go over and find the interview rooms! I hope there is some reasonable reason, like someone was sick or something...but the good news is that the Evil Hiring Freeze of Our Wonderful New/Old CEO did not cause them to cancel talking to me altogether. I am supposed to get interviewed next week. I want a new suit. Might as well get something positive out of the experience, right?

The day was brightened by a) finding out I don't have to stop in the middle of my current work project (yay, for once), b) getting to leave work early, and c) getting to get a quick yarn shop visit in the afternoon, where little Teagan cracked us all up. That is one funny child. I got to be Queen of the Shoppe, whereas poor Pat was told to go put on more makeup.

Lee and I also went to the Live Oak Coffeehouse and enjoyed hearing Karen Mal and Ken Gaines play. They were all nice to me, which is good--I never heard a word from any of the Ex's friends after he moved out, but I was hoping not to lose all Jeff's friends. Looks like I haven't. We saw a lot of folks and they were nice. Enjoyed the music, too.

I have been feeling sorta crappy about job stuff, but am better now. I just hit panic mode every so often then remember I am not a total loser, and feel better. Right now I remember that there are actually at least three departments interested in hiring me permanently, at least so they say, so I just need to get through a couple of months of ALE turmoil. And try to get someone at the damned agency I supposedly work for to talk to me. A short-term contract to tide me over would be good.

Yesterday (Saturday) was also up and down. Mostly up--had a good time at the yarn shop, and had lots of fun with my beloved once I got home in the evening. Just in between was rough. The memorial service for the friend from church was hard. And I had to try not to cry and stuff, because the choir song was at the end (a version of Psalm 23 from some British TV show). I feel bad that I had to leave as soon as the event was over and didn't get to talk to the friend's widow, so I will talk to her next week, and got a nice card for her. It was sad at the service in other ways, too. As I looked at the packed sanctuary, I saw so many of my old friends whom I miss so much. Women from my first women's group, whom I had really wanted to be my friends, but I guess didn't want me. Former choir members whose beautiful voices a mourn (not that the current choir is bad, but I do miss those strong altos). George, Jenny, Roger, John. Oh well. Time marches on, and you can't make folks be your friends who are too busy or don't want to be involved in your "drama."

Speaking of drama. I am so, so, so, so wishing the former spouse of Lee would find something better to do with her time. I knew she'd been quiet too long, and to top all the stress of yesterday off, I came home to another one of her little missives. I said to her that I was not reading the stuff and to stop sending me email. So, Lee is bad, I am bad, she is depressed and was suicidal, and I should never trust Lee. OK, thanks for the unsolicited input from someone whose advice I probably would be less inclined to solicit than anyone other than perhaps my former spouse (who has my kids this weekend, so I didn't get to go to Older Boy's solo and ensemble competition AGAIN). Anyway, I'll continue to form my own opinions of Lee based on what I observe that he does and how he treats me.

OK, so today was better. Church was good and we did a fine job on the complex Beethoven fugue. With all the new people, we rehearse things enough that I get them all memorized, so I get bonus "looking at the director" points. Hee hee. I got to talk to some people I hadn't seen in a while, and introduce Lee to some people who have been important to me in the past. I felt good.

Now I am off to the baby shower, to show off my partially completed baby dress and the hats I made. Best I can do. That stuff goes slowly!

Snowy Day in Austin Town

Yep, it even snowed today, pretty flakes. Unfortunately, that was surrounded by sleet, freezing rain and other less pleasant kinds of precipitation.

The picture at left is Work Boy #2's windmill from yesterday morning. Doesn't it look cool that all the blades have icicles? That's because it kept spinning all night.

So we have all been staying home and feeling cooped up for a couple of days. We have enough food, so all is well, and everyone's been splitting up the cooking. I did 5 loads of laundry yesterday, and today cleaned out my closet and lingerie drawers while Lee cleaned out some other drawers. RM gave him half the closet his clothing is in, so there is now at least space for Lee's clothing. Apparently he lives here now.

And that leads to the dog problem. We left them a lot of food and water on Sunday before the weather got bad, and they have access to the large kitchen area, with pillows to lie on and stuff. But we were unable to get out yesterday, nor should we today. This has led to hysterical phone calls and passive-aggressive emails from the STBX that Lee is "abusing" the animals. We aren't particularly happy with the arrangement, either, and are getting a doggie door and gates so we can bring them here ASAP. We did not plan on a severe weather emergency popping up before we could get the house puppy proofed. Sigh. So, even though it's incredibly dangerous out, Lee is poking his way to the house to check on the animals.

What really galls me is that the STBX thinks that the way to get Lee to do stuff is to send ME email telling me what a bad person I am if I do not get him to do what she tells me to do, and threatening, "I will know if you read this email." Yeah, sure, she'd know if I were stupid enough to accept the "read receipt" message. If I click "never," she does not ever get to know. I digress. He'd planned to go to the house today anyway, but now it will look like STBX is "right" and make her feel all self satisfied. Sigh, this should not matter to me. I am letting her draw me into her dysfunctional drama. So, I'll just stop that right now. Lee will do what is right because it is right, and really, who cares how anyone else feels as a result?

Interestingly, I came to find out later that the real reason the STBX was not happy had nothing to do with starving doge--it was that her money to pay her lawyer hadn't gotten there yet. Gee, I sure wish my ex had paid all of MY fees for me. I mean, I was to poor pitiful spouse whose partner left her because he found his soul mate and announced he had never actually loved ME. But no, I went out and did the divorce myself to save us both big bucks, because even when emotionally wounded I am not an idiot.

And in case you were worried, Lee made it to and from the distant house OK by driving very slowly, to discover that the dogs were just fine. They have more water and food and got petted a lot. Grumble. But he checked on the dogs because it was the right thing to do, not because some harpy attacked his girlfriend and told her to tell him to go there. OK, I will drop this topic.

Chronology

If you are interested in a chronology of the relationship between myself and my current partner, just search for "translation" in the keywords. The text in a nice shade of red contains explanations. I don't owe anyone an explanation, but I realize that ambiguity can lead to misinterpretation, and I will feel better if it is clear when and how things transpired in the last few months. Enjoy.

Postscript on April 13, 2007: This was the final post in my old blog, written for Lee's ex, since I added all the red text to help her in her endless sleuthing into Lee's and my personal life. Gosh, what will she do when the old blog is deleted? Who am I kidding? I have no doubt she's saved the whole thing to disk, so she can use it as passive aggressive "evidence" for something. Poor, poor woman. Applying energy toward moving forward, dealing with the personal issues that led to her becoming an ex, making new friends, and creating a new life would be so much more productive. But, as I have seen with many of my friends, some people prefer to dwell on, wallow in, and never escape from the past.

As for me, I relish my present, look forward to the future, and hope I learned appropriate stuff from the past.

One More Thing...

So we cheated and we lied
And we tested.
And we never failed to fail.
It was the easiest thing to do.
You will survive being bested.

Goodbye (to Old Blog)

Well, it's depressing as all heck, but I have to stop posting to this blog as of today. I was trying to be patient with someone who has been invading my privacy, but I no longer feel even remotely comfortable on my own blog for my own FRIENDS posting about my own LIFE.

I am trying to deal with everything in my life honestly, and certainly don't think I am perfect or someone who always makes the best decisions. But I am honest, ethical and respectful of others, as much as I possibly can be.

For example, I was with my ex husband for 13 years or so. During that time we worked together, shared a home office, and shared a home network. During that time, neither he nor I ever looked at the other's email, web browser history, personal files, postal mail or other personal information without being invited to. We did not lock or password protect our computers. We didn't need to. It is simple respect for privacy. Now, he was an Internet security specialist. He could have spied if he wanted to. And there was stuff on my computer, too!

I have been with Jeff in my life for 4 years as of about now. While he turns his computer off every moment he is not using it, I usually don't. And he is here all day while I work. He could come down here and find my email from Lee if he wanted to, I guess. Wouldn't be easy, but he could. After all, I was once married to an Internet security specialist.

The thing is, if you want to know something, ask the person involved. That is the adult way to do things. And if you have something to say to someone, say it to them, not by trying to hurt someone else. One thing I learned by being the Internet Director at a Dysfunctional Nonprofit Organization is that anything you write can come back and bite you in the butt. So don't write stuff down. I will remember that, too.

To find where this blog has gone, please send me an email. [no longer necessary; it is all here] All my friends and trusted readers are welcome to join. I don't have time to copy all the template files and settings and move it today, so if you could wait until tomorrow (Sunday) I would appreciate it.

translation: I've had enough of having to not write about what matters to me. So I went somewhere else. If you need any more chronology of Lee's and my life, ask him or me. Mostly we are two people who plan to spend the rest of their lives together who are trying to get their lives in order, so that can happen. We are happy. My kids are happy and really enjoy Lee. Jeff is happier than I have ever seen him, actually, with lots of ideas for things to do, and confidence that he is not being thrown out immediately. The job situation is looking up. We're having fun working on our houses and figuring out logistics. I am strong and brave and can face just about anything now. We wish everyone who reads this peace, happiness and a future filled with people they are compatible with who love them just as they are.

Highs and Lows

There really have been a lot of highs and lows lately. Do I thrive on drama? Not as much as some people I know, but I do seem to manage always to have some nice, meaty "concern" to dwell on. Oh boy, another issue to work on. I'm lining them up these days.

I am not knitting as much as I was. And that is bad timing, with holidays approaching and nothing for anyone bought--I don't feel "festive" even when I am feeling happy. When I am feeling happy I am in some other world where gifts and family and obligations don't even exist. Darn those other worlds sometimes...but, I am making a pretty set of washcloths for my sister, because she actually ASKED for them. Of course, I had to get some fancy cotton that is hand-dyed, not practical Sugar and Cream. And I am on sleeve #2 of the Silk Garden sweater. I hope to go back and finish my vest after that, but it is going to be so big, now, sigh.

And I am so wanting things to go better for EM, but he is having to slog through some hard times. And all I can do is listen and watch. And hope. What does it say about my issues when I can't even convey positivity about the things I am most positive about in my whole life? I guess you just can't be sure of anything until time passes and it really is true. So Suna should go and enjoy the things she has right here and right now.

translation: None of this is easy, but you have to deal with consequences. I really am glad Lee's family has been so supportive, but sad about the name calling and accusations he has had to deal with. That's why these translations are here. To make things really clear and less easy to misinterpret.

Thinking and Shrinking Again

Hey, sorry I didn't type yesterday. It was a rough day, having to repeat in every social situation (work, knitting, choir) how I am still Little Miss Contractor. I was OK most of the day, and just lost it for a few minutes with DP after I left work. But it took a lot of effort to hold together.

I spent the rest of the day thinking about the ethics of Internet privacy. I'll spare you the long thought process, but it occurred to me how important personal ethics are to personal privacy. Eveyone knows nothing is "safe," not email, blogs, nor websites, no matter how many passwords you have or whatever. But, I realized a few days ago that at home, I feel safe, mainly because I and the people in my house (as well as exDH) always respect each other's privacy. I never look at DP's email, or check up on what he has been browsing (don't know how I could--he always turns his machine off when not in use), but I never looked at exDH's either. And vice versa. If we want each other to read or see something, we share. Otherwise, our own things are our business--it is mutual respect. I know it isn't that way for everyone, so I will say I am grateful for that feature of my home.

As for shrinking, I've now lost about 20 pounds this year. I'd let myself creep up in weight again (not near the high from when I lost so much that time, but too high for my pants to fit well). This year, with all the stress and such, it's been going down, and in the last few weeks with all the high stress, it's picked up. I am glad to be within the "OK weight for Suna" zone again (barely), but I am a little concerned, since one reason I haven't eaten much is that my stomach hurts. So, I'll talk about it at the checkup I am scheduling real soon.

The bad thing is I have to go dig out some slightly smaller jeans (it's OK, they go down to a 6 in the bowels of the closet). Luckily the ones I bought last week were pretty tight, so they will last at least another 5 pounds, which is the goal. I am not, not, not going to get down to where I was in 2001, or whenever that big loss happened! A nice, medium 125 will be fine. I lost the double chin, fit into nice 8-10 clothing, and feel OK, too.

translation: I was pretty appalled to think that the STBX was reading Lee's email. And reading my blog, which I had been very careful to not list anywhere, not make searchable, etc. But, I did share it with friends. And you never know what THEY will do with information. Like make it available to people with access to their computers.

I'm Sorry to Disappoint Everyone

But no, I didn't get the job, and I know most of you will be sad. But it could be worse. The personnel fellow stressed way too many times to NOT be serious that I was an extremely strong contender and that the folks in charge would like to find a place for me in their organization. I handled everything very well, and did not be weepy. I will be patient and see what else comes up. Ideally, I could find something in the next department over.

And of course, singing helps me feel better.

More on other topics tomorrow, if I have time. Lots of work to do and a busy evening with NON WORK FRIENDS.

translation: I said non-work friends here, and pretty much stopped posting about Lee because I realized someone was snooping on his email and reading my blog. I did not have sex at any point during this week, by the way.

extra translation for the especially paranoid: If, for some reason, my saying I did not have sex this week conveys the impression I did have sex the week before, or on some other mysterious Day of Sex, cross that off your list of paranoid delusions. Not that it is anyone's business other than RM and mine, I did not have sexual relations of any kind with anyone other than myself from March 2003 until whatever day I say I did in this stupid blog (which was really NOT written to be a series of hidden hints revealing my true nefarious character, like the Da Vinci Code; it was intended as a little fun blog to update my friends, not as fodder for anyone's unhealthy obsessions).

Nota bene: I am not obligated to explain my sex life to ANYONE. To find out why my boyfriend became my housemate, one would have to go date him. Feel free. He eats a lot and earns little. He is also always right, all the time. If you are also always right, all the time, this might be an issue. You might cause each other to explode. That would be messy, but nonetheless might solve lots of problems in my life.

April 2007: Boy, I was sure pissed off at Lee's STBX. She was reading crazy things between the lines of my blog, long after I moved it to here because of her behavior. I really regret that Lee accidentally left a screen available for her to see it, thus really violating my privacy and feeding a paranoid person with fodder for her paranoia.

Comments (oh yes, this post was supposed to be about not getting that job, a thing that also truly screwed up my life in the long run)

May I be the first to call you a dork for appologizing to us for causing disappointment? I thought so. :)That sucks that you didn't get the job. In a big way. It's very good to hear that personnel was so supportive and encouraging. Can't wait to hear about the next opportunity for permanent employment that comes your way!

yeah, I just feel like I let everyone down (present company excepted). That is because I am so hard on myself and so badly want to live up to expectations--just keep falling slightly short. This is the second time in a row that I JUST missed the mark. I'd say always a bridesmaid and never a bride, but no one ever asked me to be a bridesmaid. :-)

Cave People

I am back from the fun time at Inks Lake State Park, which is quite near the scary bar I vowed never to return to a couple of months ago, but a much better place by far. It is rainy, so the first place the Dear Partner was supposed to play, at the park, got canceled. Still, they let us have the cool little mini-cabin to stay in overnight for free. The cabins have two sets of bunk beds, a table, and four chairs, but most important, heat and A/C. I think I could manage to camp if I had one of these! We were the closest one to the restroom, which was nice, since one of us got up about 6 times in the night to visit it. Man, old dudes and their “issues.”

Anyway, once we were settled in a really nice park ranger gave us a tour of the place, to entice DP to come back in the spring and play a gig there. I was all for it, if I got a vote. I always liked that park, the few times we got to go on church campouts there back when XH was around. (Speaking of him, he was here to see the boys this weekend and dog-sat, and stayed at our house with the kids over the weekend—it saved him big bucks for a hotel, and me dog kennel fees. Isn’t that civilized??) This park is in the part of Hill Country where all the pink granite is everywhere, and it is so lovely, covered in many colors of lichen. It’s just spectacular in the spring, too—height of wildflower country as well.

The cave is called Longhorn Caverns, and we headed out there after a while. The gig was so much fun. Lots of natural reverb, perfect temperature, and a nice audience. They had just been fed a lovely dinner, went down in the cave for the show, and then came back up for coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. The cave used to host dances, and was improved by the CCC during the Great Depression. A very interesting place. DP did a good job, and even sang the song he wrote for me, which was sweet (it’s a piano song, so it took him a while to figure out a way to do it on guitar—no way we were gonna take a keyboard down into a cave.

Other than traffic noise (darn those diesel pickup trucks) and DP’s restroom visits, it was a lovely, quiet night, not too cold and not to hot. I was pretty refreshed, even by such a short visit and no chance to go hiking (it started to rain as we were leaving, so there went the little hike I wanted to go on). But, we drove home the long way, so I got to see a lot of hills, lakes and scenery, through the drizzle.

I spent the rest of the day at work, because I had gotten behind due to those things last week I was dealing with. I finished the thing I was working on and need to start another one to get back on schedule. Just me and the Work Guy (and Mrs. Work Guy, who I met and is very nice) are up here. So, I played loud music and enjoyed the OT pay.

translation: There was no relationship other than friendship at this point. None whatsoever. Genuinely glad to meet Mrs. Work Guy. Spent the day...working. With a bit of chatting. Well, I would have chatted with whoever was there, anyway.

April 2007: I also want to add that it was nice to have this final pleasant respite with Jeff. It's a good memory for both of us. I am SO glad we can be friends and still care about each other, even as we move on.

Sounds like a lovely weekend! I'm glad you enjoyed it.Jody gave me Tarot Art Nouveau! I'm so excited!Other than that and the news about my friend moving here, I've been having a pretty "meh" week. I've had an upset stomach all week, and it also appears that I might be developing arthritis.I'm waiting on insurance cards to come in the mail so I can go to a doctor about it.

Stop It, Suna

I can sure set myself off into a downward spiral of introspection easily. I guess that's why I try to keep myself busy--otherwise I start over-analyzing my shortcomings. Just seeing the kids' dad reminded me how little he thinks of me, and then I kept feeling like I wasn't living up to anyone's expectations all day, and I got worse and worse. Also, I think I just don't get enough introvert time these days, so I got some last night. Trying for that now, too.

So, what is good? NJ is surely a sweet and loyal friend, and I appreciate anyone who defends me on my blog, like she and Sandy have done. Awwww. I guess I'll keep them, both. Besides, NJ also loves Bejeweled.

Also good. I finished a frothy pink scarf as a surprise gift for a coworker (none of them read this, far as I know, so I think the secret's safe, and if not, hi coworkers). I put a ruffled border on it, and it is very girly, for its very girly/jock/brain recipient (she's an over-achiever like me, and in the first graduating class of the school my kids go to!). I also got my felted ornaments to felt, and delivered them to the yarn store, and finished the cutest little sweater for a store sample and class to teach. I forgot how much fun top-down raglan sweaters were until I did this one--no seams and just one needle in each size, because I magic looped it. The yarn is mostly acrylic, but a lot of fun. I think it's Spilto or something like that (I don't have a label). There are little dots of yarn that fall off and onto your pants, but otherwise it's nice, and the colors are intersting blends. Another nice shade has oranges and yellows and tans.

Sorta sad. I had to go get all the scarves that were left at the store in south Austin that was supposedly selling them for me. They sure weren't selling. It's no problem for me--I can sell them at Ye Olde Spiritual Community Yule Fest or at some other similar event and end up with some good holiday cash. But I feel sorry for the nice folks who ran the shop, because they had a good idea, to support local artists. I just think it was hard to SEE the place, back off the road like it was. And the prices were high. Because I was already in South Austin, I dropped by The Other Yarn Store and got some laceweight yarn I did not need, but will enjoy working with. Some suri alpaca in muted colors that will make yet another nice shawl. Like I need another shawl.

I have to pay bills, take the kids to the dentist, and do other "fun" stuff tomorrow. But I hope work is fun and that we get new folks, and the old folks come back (worried about a coworker with a hurt knee).

There, I posted and did not dwell on how unfriendly I can be, how intolerant I am of some annoying habits, and how weird it is that I want to be social and have friends, but need to be alone so much. Oh well, we're all weird.

All a bunch of weirdos, we are. yup yup.I've had some good introverted time this weekend and I needed it, so you certainly aren't alone on that front. Friday night & Saturday night by myself and most of today.I hope you feel spunkier soon!

Ya know, just becasue your ex used you as a "trial wife" without really thinking about what he wanted in a life partner in no way makes you a terrible person, and neither does needing downtime ALONE. Just a kick from your fellow in weirdness.

Don't feel bad. I am needing tons of down time it is one of the many reason we do not have kids. Monday I go no where and basically talk to no one. Tuesday I usually have an appointment then spend the day by myself. I am trying not stay at home all day on fridays. I usually goto the grocery and clean up the house. Now I try to let myself goto the yarn shop. I volunteer on Wed & Thur morning thru early afternoon. Remember hub does not come home betw 6:30-7:30 then he is programming, plays PS2, read groups things on the internet. I usually hope he will watch tv with me. Weekends we try to geocaching in morning then hubby spends time programming and playing PS2.Struggle between needing downtime and being extremely lonely. It is a balancing act. I know a person who wanted 30 min free from the kiddios had a timer and if they came in during the 30 min he would restart the timer.Even my mom had downtime rules. Read the newspaper and watch the nightly news needed to be interupt free.Take CareSmile :P

Hang in there SAK, and be proud of yourself that you recognize your need for down time. I am constantly amazed at your productivity! I have been knitting the same sock for two years and could never make something good enough to sell! Revel in your down time.

Good Stuff!

Lots of good knitting news to report. I finally got the photos of the faroese shawl in finished form, so I can share it! There's a back view as well--maybe for another day.

I also finished the rainbow shrug, which ended up having a yellow trim, since I used up ALL the yarn the store had in that expensive ribbon. It looks pretty good, but is slippery, so it keeps falling off. Look for a photo next post, or in Flikr (link in sidebar), soon as I get that photo and this one in there.

And Icarius is happy--soon as I finish making lots of web pages, I will get to work on it again, and I will finally get to the excitement of Chart 2! I have been on Chart 1 for 7 repeats now, and I am ready to move on to something a little more challenging!

And in good news of the non-knitting kind, my dear chilluns came home last night, and it is so good to see their wiry sunburned selves again! Nice to hear voices, the sounds of World of Warcraft...well, the messes will not be thrilling, but everything else about having them around is swell. I am very pleased that they enjoyed their camp this year, both of them, and that everything seemed to go more smoothly with their other family. The ideal is for them to be happy in both homes--they are what matters most. Which is all good, since I have been peeved at the children's male parent since he accused me of "defaming" him in some bio I wrote on my high school alumni site. I had no clue what he was talking about, but when I finally found it, it was a fairly neutral description. I just removed him. Easiest to just remove any mention of his existence, but I can't completely, since the children need both parents, and there are all these irritating mutual decisions coming up (cars, insurance, colleges, ugh). But, that is for later.

I have been doing well--enjoying the new job a bit more, enjoying the people there a lot, getting interesting tarot insights, and feeling a bit more chipper, like my old self. Glad to see things slowly improving. That's the way I want them to go!

translation: I have met Lee. I thought he was nice. I found out we had a lot of odd things in common. So I liked the people at work. Liked.
